The Interceptor met with H. E. Ms Marija Romanovskaja, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations General Assembly on Friday, May 19 on our way to a 6th Africa day annual conference, that took place at Brdo pri Kranju. She took the time to discuss the session on Colonisation of Outer Space that was happening on Thursday and the importance of this conference for their country.

The Interceptor: Could you tell us the position of your country on Thursdays session the Colonisation of Outer Space?
Ms Romanovskaja: We actually prefer the expression inhabitation, however we do believe that was not really the topic that was being discussed. The debate was mostly focused on the exploration and the activities that are already taking place in outer space, as well as on endorsing the cooperation and other relations among nations present.
The Interceptor: How is your delegation satisfied with yesterdays result of the session?
Ms Romanovskaja: We were not really surprised about the outcome, because we have noticed before the countries were really divided and polarized. One pole was the Alliance for common heritage of mankind, and the other is the coalition of USA, People's Republic of China and Russian Federation, which is probably a surprising coalition, but definetely a strong one. The situation for our country was really difficult, because we're a developping country, and want to cooperate with outer developing countries, yet on the other hand we also want to build upon even stronger relations with Russia and China, so it's hard to "go against them" so to speak. As we said, we're a developing country and we need strong allies and strong relations, especially on matters like these.
The Interceptor: In yesterday's session we have seen you, as you said, cooperating with China and Russia, but is this the only basis for further cooperation?
Ms Romanovskaja: We were actually signatories behind the Draft Resolution 1.0 and Resolution 3.0, because we wish to stay neutral as much as possible. But in general, we are still favourably looking upon further strenghtening our cooperation with Russia and China and that is something we're strongly commited to.
The Interceptor: How did you perceive yesterdays threat of UK when they threatened to call off the financial support?
Ms Romanovskaja: We believe that was more of an empty threat, just to make a point. We believe no one really wants to amke such drastic changes. We believe UK will not do this, because the whole essence of the UN is cooperation.
The Interceptor: What is the goal for you today, for attending this big event, is there anything in particular you wish to achieve?
Ms Romanovskaja: We are very interested in the strenghtening our relations with African countries. We are looking forward to the potential of these relations in the future and to discover new opportunities.
The Interceptor: What are your hopes for the future?
Ms Romanovskaja: Kazakhstan is very optimistic regarding the inhabitation of outer space and we believe in humanity and in solving problems together. When it comes to the need of inhabiting other celestial bodies, we hope we can be in the front row in the developing process.
